1) What exactly
is life coaching?
A life coach supports you in your goals. For some,
that may look like clarifying what your goals are,
or needing support to stay on track with your already
existing ones. Since the line between personal and
professional is invisible, a coach looks at your
life as a whole, although you may have a particular
area of focus. Ultimately coaches are a guide, they
are not a therapist or a guru. We pose questions,
create exercises that open up your mind to possibilities
and your passions, but ultimately, you're the expert,
since it's your life.
2) How is coaching different than therapy?
Let's look at your life as a garden, and let's say
that you want to make changes in this garden. If
you go to a therapist, for the most part, you will
explore why you do what you do, and what's in your
way, in some cases, deep emotional hurts or wounds.
Using the garden metaphor; the rocks, worms, and
weeds. This is very important work. Unfortunately
as you may be aware, awareness doesn't always lead
to action. Using that same model, if you go to a
coach, the focus will be far more on flowers, plants
and trees. Which ones do you want? Where will you
put them? When will you be planting them? In general
therapists ask "Why?" and coaches ask
"What?"
3) You offer so many programs, and there's
so much I want to work on in my life? How do I know
which program is right for me?
Well first we start with a very thorough intake
process (2 hours) where we look at all aspects of
your life and put together a rough draft of a life
purpose/mission statement for yourself. That serves
as a spiritual compass that will significantly inform
your personal and professional goals. High priority
tasks and actions usually show up naturally.
From there, we formulate a 90-day goal, (I request
a 3 month commitment to begin with, since consistency
and momentum bring about the greatest results).
Our work knits together structure and flow, so we
stay in dialogue and connected with the process
and what you need.
4) Sounds great, how do I begin?
First I suggest you read through Luscious Living
with Lois website, so that you'll gain a greater
understanding of the work that I do, what the process
looks like, and what areas you feel particularly
drawn to. From there, feel free to e-mail me at
lois@lusciouslivingwithlois.com or call me at
212-682-5225 for a complimentary 45-minute
consultation. During the consultation, we will clarify
what your needs are, answer any remaining questions
and see if it's a fit. Then, upon receipt of your
payment, I will send you (via e-mail) the informational
packet and questionnaire and we will start the coaching
process.
